白か黒か(White or Black)
“白か黒か (Black or White)” is a collection of lint from my dirty laundry. I spent two years collecting two groups of lint from two separated baskets of laundry, WHITE and DARK.
The piece is my attempt to examine the color difference of separated laundries which interestingly resemble to the tendency of decision making process in my ethnic group.
Japanese are known for making ambiguous decisions. We prefer the answer somewhere in between or often delay the answer instead of YES or NO in order to lead to the best decision or even to avoid negotiation or conflict. This is a national characteristic rooted in Japanese society.
