Part of an ongoing series constructed from commercially available house-paint colors, each work draws from a different manufacturer’s collection. In this version, Sherwin-Williams colors containing the word “Blue” are arranged alphabetically.
Blues considers the duality of blue—as a color of calm and clarity, but also of melancholy and depression. The title further evokes the blues, a musical form born from hardship and struggle in American history, extending the color into a psychological and cultural space.
市販の住宅用塗料を用いた継続的なシリーズの一作。それぞれ異なるメーカーのカラーコレクションを使用している。本作では、Sherwin-Williamsの塗料色の中から、色名に「Blue」を含むものを抽出し、アルファベット順に配置した。
《Blues》は、静けさや明晰さを想起させる一方、憂鬱や孤独とも結びつく「青」の両義性を扱う。タイトルは同時に、アメリカの歴史における苦難や葛藤から生まれた音楽「ブルース」を想起させ、青という色を心理的、文化的な空間へと広げている。
